From trauma to triumph: Rebecca Ngutshana shares her story
Former Rus-ter-Vaal resident Rebecca Ngutshana discusses her book RAW, a powerful story of resilience, healing, and hope ahead of its September 12 book launch.
VEREENIGING- Rebecca Ngutshana (49), a former resident of Rus-ster-Vaal, is proving how one’s trauma can turn into triumph through her memoir RAW. In the book, Ntshungana pours out her heart, reeling audiences into her life and taking them on a journey through moments that shaped it.
Speaking to Ster North, Ngutshana says she has chosen to share her story to inspire, empower, educate, and encourage both women and men who have faced or are still facing similar challenges. She states that being part of the Education, Training, and Development fraternity helped her understand people and their reluctance to share their stories.
“I am a woman who has experienced both the beauty and the brokenness of life. I have laughed, loved, lost, fallen, risen, and learned to keep moving forward despite every setback. Behind this book is a woman with an extraordinary testimony.” She believes that stories have the power to heal.
“If my journey can inspire even one person to choose hope over despair, then every page was worth writing. The title RAW represents honesty without filters. It is my life stripped of pretence, perfection, and masks. It is the truth, the painful moments, the joyful victories, the embarrassing experiences, the failures, and the triumphs.”

Ngutshana says the most difficult chapters to write were those that forced her to revisit moments of deep pain and vulnerability. The author says her objective is to give her readers hope.
“I want them to know that no matter how broken life may seem, healing is possible and every setback can become a stepping stone.”
Writing the book gave her the courage to confront her past with compassion, not fear.
“I realised that silence protects pain, but sharing creates healing. Life will knock you down, but resilience is choosing to get up every single time. I have learned that circumstances do not determine your future; your response to them does. “
Every chapter holds a piece of my heart, but the stories that reveal my lowest moments are the ones I treasure most because they also reveal God’s faithfulness and my greatest growth.Ngutshana believes that the book will resonate with anyone who has experienced heartbreak, rejection, loss, disappointment, abuse, failure, or personal struggles.
“My message is simple: You are stronger than you think. Your past does not determine your future, and your story still has purpose.”
The launch will be more than a celebration; it will be an experience. Guests can expect heartfelt storytelling, inspiring speeches, a reading from RAW, opportunities to ask questions, book signings, and moments of reflection and celebration.
The date of the launch, September 12, will be merged with her 50th birthday, making it a very special milestone of gratitude, resilience, and new beginnings.
