Golden girl Lwandle flies school flag high again

Emfulenipark sprint sensation Lwandle Dlamini is off to Zimbabwe to chase more glory after storming to double gold at the SA Championships.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Laerskool Emfulenipark’s golden girl is flying the school flag high once again.

Thirteen-year-old athletics sensation Lwandle Dlamini is set to represent South Africa at the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (COSSASA) Games in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, from August 31 to September 3.

The Grade Seven pupil shot to national prominence earlier this year after dominating the track at the South African Championships in Cape Town in April.

Dlamini clinched double gold in the U13 100m and 200m events, cementing her reputation as one of the country’s promising young sprinters.

Now, the youngster is ready to take on some of the best school athletes from across Southern Africa. In a congratulatory message on social media, Emfulenipark praised Dlamini for her selection and achievement.

Dlamini will proudly wear the green and gold as she competes in the 100m, 200m and relay events.

The school said receiving her South African colours at such a young age was a remarkable achievement and a reflection of her athletic talent.

“We are especially proud to see her receive her SA colours at such a young age, an honour that reflects her outstanding talent and commitment to the sport,” added the school.

For Dlamini, the journey began when she was just three years old.

The bubbly youngster developed a love for running and has continued to chase her dreams with the support of her father, family and school community.

Her father has played an important role in helping her remain focused on athletics, while her school has continued to back her development both on and off the track.

With national gold already under her belt, Dlamini will now have an even bigger stage on which to showcase her speed. Ster wishes Lwandle the very best as she takes her talent to the regional stage.
