Alleged murderer appears in court for stabbing ex-lover

Thamsanqa Voyi, accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Suzan Nthoba, to death, sat smiling in the dock while waiting for the proceedings to begin.

Thamsanqa Voyi, accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Suzan Nthoba, to death, sat smiling in the dock while waiting for the proceedings to begin. This infuriated members of the public in the packed magistrates’ courtroom on Monday.

The magistrate, Makgaola Foso says the suspect will appear again on Friday when all the charges against him will be combined.
According to the Ikageng spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom, Voyi has other charges against him that date back to May 2, when he is alleged to have raped the victim at 02:00 in the morning. He was released on bail, however, and was initially set to appear on Friday for the alleged rape.
“The victim also opened a housebreaking case against him. On July 20, he was interviewed by the police and there was not enough evidence to arrest him. That evening, he went on to the victim and ended up stabbing her to death. Voyi contravened the protection order which was opened against him on 22 October in 2014,” she said.
The alleged murder of Suzan has sent shockwaves through the community. It has also attracted the attention of the ANC Women’s League who marched near the court and handed over a memorandum opposing bail. The PEC member, Mpho Kgasane, used to live next door to Voyi and his first wife and says he has a history of abusing his former lovers.
