Car theft rises in Three Rivers

VEREENIGING. - Vereeniging Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda warns the community about the rising theft of motor vehicles in Three Rivers, adding that business break-ins are also on the rise in the Duncanville area.

“Business owners are warned to tighten security on their premises.We further want to warn persons driving in Mario Milani Road between Ascort on Vaal Street and Dickinson Park Vereeniging about two coloured ladies stopping motorists.

“These ladies have car keys in their hands.  They will tell you that they need help with their car in the forest. Once you go with them you are going to be hijacked and robbed.

Funda further reports that a total of 35 people were arrested for various crimes last week. “Nine people were arrested for shoplifting, three for possession of drugs, two for assault, four for being undocumented, three for drunken driving, one for theft, two for business robbery, one for theft of motor vehicle, two for house break-ins and theft, two for common robbery, three for malicious damage to property and one for the use of a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent,”

Funda concludes, adding that all the arrested persons will appear in Vereeniging Magistrates Court soon.
