Four-year-old boy killed after truck knocks him over

"Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the child and he was declared dead on the scene. The driver of the truck fortunately, escaped injury. It is believed that the child had attempted to run across the road and had failed to notice the oncoming vehicle."

VANDERBIJLPARK. – A four-year-old boy was killed yesterday afternoon after he was knocked over by a truck on the R553 in Bophelong.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring says, “Paramedics arrived on the scene and found the truck parked on the side of the road. The body of the boy was found lying on the side of the road. The mother and father were on the scene.”

Meiring states that paramedics assessed the boy and found that he had sustained numerous, fatal injuries and showed no signs of life.

“Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the child and he was declared dead on the scene. The driver of the truck fortunately, escaped injury. It is believed that the child had attempted to run across the road and had failed to notice the oncoming vehicle.”

Local authorities will be investigating further.
