DE DEUR. – The Commander of Visible Policing Lieutenant Colonel Mongezi Gulashe is in the house. Having spent 11 years in the police service, the workaholic Gulashe is not new to the Sedibeng region. He once called the shots for two years at the Boipatong Police Station. At the Vanderbijlpark Police Station, he served as Relief Commander before jetting to Sebokeng were he did not stay long.
His experience in service delivery apparently prompted his senior to deploy him to serve as Vispol Commander in De Deur, starting on January 1.
Immediately after he took over from Lt Col M Malaka, Gulashe did not look back.
First thing on his diary, he engaged to revive with some of the defunct Community Policing Forum.Community service is close to his heart.
“De Deur is big, I have plans on how we going to tackle crime. After having travelled, meeting with residents in the area, we are going to fight crime tooth and nails,” he said. “It’s about time criminals lose focus. The community should not be frightened by criminals.
“It’s about time we restore dignity by dealing away with fear.
“Like it or not, we are going to install bravery within households” he said.
The area of concern is the R82 or the Old Johannesburg/ Vereeniging Road. The road is plagued with hijackings and prostitution has become a norm.
Gulashe said that Police will manage to close the criminal floodgates from the north of Johannesburg.
“Already I have engaged community patrollers, reservists and Police. We have enough police and vehicles in terms of our organograms.”
The area, with three sectors is very big and manageable. De Deur station includes Walkerville, Dream Land, Thula Mtwana, Savanna City, Lakeside Estate, Tshepomg, Debonair park, Teddy Field, Apple Orchards, Rust-ter-Vaal, Roshnee.
Gulashe can be contacted on (016) 590 9215 or 071 675 7291 or Community Service Centre (016) 590 9208.
