Vaal pre-paid electricity scammers arrested

The SABC reported that members of the National Investigation Unit followed up on intelligence and raided several houses in the Vaal recently.

Vaal Triangle. – Vishnu Naidoo from the SAPS is said to have confirmed the arrest of five people from the Vaal in connection with a pre-paid electricity scam in Vanderbijlpark, Evaton and Boipatong.

The SABC reported that members of the National Investigation Unit followed up on intelligence and raided several houses in the Vaal recently. It was further reported that in Vanderbijlpark, Eskom equipment used to generate electricity was seized while an unlicensed firearm was recovered in Evaton.

Naidoo said the arrests come after the police were conducting an investigation on a syndicate that has been operating in the area selling electricity vouchers fraudulently. It was in two of those houses that they were able to arrest the five men.
