SEDIBENG. – The Sedibeng Netball U/19 squad finished fourth in the National Championships at Afrikaanse Meisies Hoerskool in Pretoria which came to an end  the first weekend of July. Despite finishing fourth in the tournament, Sedibeng Netball Team manager Fakazile Nkitseng said it was an encouraging performance for the local girls. She said Sedibeng was well represented and the girls never disappointed as they beat Tshwane B District 41 – 37 in the first game, beat Capricorn 45 – 22, hammered Vhembe District 51 – 24. They also beat Umzinyathi District 42 – 21 in the last game of group stages.

The local girls lost 41 – 35 to West Rand in the third and fourth place match. Nkitseng told Sedibeng Ster Sport that it was the first time Sedibeng Netball Team competed in the highest competition, saying she is proud of the fighting spirit of the girls. “I must say it was not an easy competition but our girls fought very hard. Finishing in fourth place is not bad at all, taking into consideration the teams that we competed against. We want to thank our technical team for their sterling job throughout the tournament. We have learned so much from this tournament and we will implement some of the things we learned there in our local team,” she concluded
