UPDATE ON THE PURRPAWS FOR LIFE MATTER:-
The SPCA Vereeniging & Vanderbiljlpark, with the assistance of Schindlers Attorneys, submitted an application in terms of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962, to the Magistrate of the Sasolburg Magistrates Court, to have Ms Lindie Van Rooyen of Purrpaws for Life’s magisterial authority revoked.
A hearing was held on 20 February 2019 at the Sasolburg Magistrates Court, with various role players being present, including the Animal Anti-Cruelty League Johannesburg. The presiding Magistrate considered all the verbal submissions that were made by the parties present. The presiding Magistrate made an order that the magisterial authority of Ms Lindie Van Rooyen be revoked with immediate effect.
Good cause must exist in order for any magisterial authority to be revoked by a Magistrate.
This means that Ms Lindie Van Rooyen may not act in terms of the powers vested in the Animals Protection Act or remove or confiscate any animal in terms of the said legislation.
The SPCA is in the process of taking further legal action against Purrpaws for Life and its directors.
