Rumour about 4 murdered children unfounded, says SAPS

'Such false information causes nothing but unnecessary panic, which in the end has a negative impact on the Police's limited resources'

HEILBRON. – A spokesperson for the SAPS Zamdela Cluster says the Police are aware of a false rumour, spread since Thursday, 16 May 2019, alleging that four men escaped from prison and have kidnapped, raped and killed four children from a school in Heilbron.

“The Zamdela Cluster would like to dispute on record: These allegations are not true and no case of Kidnapping, Rape or Murder of Children has been reported, neither have any children been reported as missing in Heilbron,” says the SAPS in a statement received by Sedibeng Ster this morning.

“We request the community and the learners not to panic as this is just false information. We would like to appeal to our communities to refrain from spreading such unfounded and unconfirmed stories until they are confirmed officially by the Police. Such false information causes nothing but unnecessary panic, which in the end has a negative impact on the Police’s limited resources,” says Constable Josephine Rani of the SAPS Communications Department.
