Mob justice suspected in murdered man’s case

Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda has condemned mob justice after a body of an African male was found in an open veld in Unitas Park extension 3.

VEREENIGING. – Vereeniging Police are investigating the murder of an unknown man whose body was found in a veld in Unitas Park Extension 3, Vereeniging on Friday.

Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda said police received a complaint of a body lying in the veld on Friday afternoon.

“On their arrival at the scene police found an African male of approximately 26-years. He had no clothes on, only a pair of blue socks.

On further inspection police found that he had bruises all over his body.

“We found sticks nearby, which we believe were used to beat him,” says Funda.

No witnesses have come forward yet and police are appealing to members of the community who might know what transpired to please contact Vereeniging Police on 016 450 2263/4.

* Speaking on the issue of mob justice, Funda condemned the act, saying that members of the community should refrain from taking the law into their own hands, “Mob justice is a crime.”
