VANDERBIJLPARK.- Despite sinking in deep misery the Gauteng Finance and e-Government MEC, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, has sworn that the Emfuleni Local Municiplaity (ELM) will not be allowed to fail.
Nkomo-Ralehoko was speaking during a government and business stakeholder meeting held at Stone Haven in Vanderbijlpark recently where she noted progress registered in efforts to turn around the ELM for the net benefit of all who live in it.
The meeting was attended by the Golden Triangle Chamber of Commerce (GTCOC) and other local businesses, among others, who welcomed government’s commitment to listen and effectively discuss all municipal challenges faced by ELM.
The Executive Mayor of ELM, Gift Moerane, gave an update on the Implementation of the Financial Recovery Plan (FRP) and the Economic Development strides currently underway.
The ELM said that the meeting resolved to create a platform for engagement which will be representative of all affected parties to attend to the affordability of new electricity tariffs, billing, road maintenance and other related services.
“The meeting was in line with the commitment made by the MEC to engage the business chamber and the municipality as part of ongoing efforts to address service delivery challenges in the municipality including the electricity billing system, water supply, sanitation and other services.
“The MEC will also update stakeholders regarding the implementation of the adopted Financial Recovery Plan. Government further committed to all parties present that municipalities will be prioritized to normalize the provision of public services and create opportunities for future growth and development.”
