De Deur. – A man has been arrested for unlawful possession of firearm, ammunition and illegal substances, De Deur police said on Tuesday.

De Deur crime prevention received an anonymous tip off from one of the members of the community regarding an African who is in possession of a firearm.k9 unit and  Sedibeng flying Squad were called in to assist together they proceeded to the address that was given. “On arrival  they found the door wide open they meet with an African male who was sitting on the couch. While searching the suspect they found one black 9mm pistol which serial number had been filled off one magazine which had six live rounds as well as two more magazines which were empty, as the search continued police came across 3 black bags of dagga aswell as 10 pieces of nyaope,” Constable Pieterse said.

The suspect was arrested at De Deur SAPS and will be appearing at the Vereeniging court soon. The firearm will be sent to ballistics to identify if it has been used in other crimes that might have been committed.

The station  commander Col Landingwe commended the members for their positive response she also added that one firearm recovered is to many lives and properties saved.
