Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Safa Sedibeng SAB League and Super League coaches were concerned with how their teams are going to play taking into consideration the safety of the players against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Football is a contact sports and it is still not yet clear what measures will be put for the safety of players in the field of play. The coaches are against the suggestion that players wear face-masks for training and playing purposes. They believe this will pose a danger to the players. NWU Vaal Football Manager, Thomas Thema, said face-masks will be unsafe for players.
His sentiments were echoed by VUT FC Football Manager, Adolfs Tsotetsi, who also said playing with face-masks will be last thing. Tsotetsi suggested that when the league resume the teams must play two games a day and play another two games after two weeks, after being tested. He believes that the regular testing of players will help for all players to know their status.
Celta Vigo Development FC Coach, Themba Dlamini, said this is a complex situation because after testing negative the players will go back their families and friends.
“Look this is a sensitive matter that needs all of us who are involved in football to come up with the best solution in consultation of health experts,” said Rustervaal United FC coach, Isaak Greyling.
Sedibeng Ster Sport will try to get hold of health experts to find out if there are measures put in place for football and other contacts sports, looking into the future.
