School Nutrition Programs to be reopened on June 1

GAUTENG. – The Department of Basic Education (DoBE) has announced that the National School Nutrition Programme will be reopened for all learners when Grades 12 and 7 are reintroduced to schools on June 1.

The DoBE said that the National School Nutrition Programme has adjusted the 2020 feeding calendar in accordance with the phased-in approach of schooling and the Curriculum Recovery Plan of the basic education sector.

“All food handlers will be supplied with the required personal protective equipment including gloves, aprons and cloth masks. These have already been procured by provinces as part of a basic health and hygiene package.”

The DoBE further said that the school nutrition budget will be utilized according to the revised school calendar and where feasible, school meals will also be extended to catch-up programs for the Grade 12’s.
