BOIPATONG. – A group of about 11 unemployed men from Boipatong have taken it upon themselves to clean up a dumping site situated next to the Lebohang Secondary School gate.
The Itireleng Task Team was formulated after the men saw the struggle the learners faced daily, in which the learners battled entering the school yard. They also noticed how motorists could no longer make use of the street.
Chairman Diphapang Mofokeng (54) says, “We approached our ward councillor about cleaning up the mess and ensuring that the road is not always flooded with water. The place was also becoming a crime hot spot.
“We then decided that once the place had been cleaned, we will gradually begin to turn it into a park.”
Itumeleng Hlapolosa (32) said that this was not the only project they had set their eyes on in the area.
“We also need a proper tar road next to this school. In order for us to achieve this, we will be approaching a few companies to help us with resources.” Hlapolosa said that they were carrying out the project within the lockdown regulations of social distancing and wearing masks.
