DE DEUR.- The De Deur police are warning community members to be vigilant and careful when asking for lifts in the area after a number of cases have been opened and are under investigation. This follows people being robbed after they were offered lifts at the corner of R82 and Weilbach road next to Caltex Garage in De Deur Area going to Vereeniging or to Meyerton.
Police Spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Tshekgofatso Maliehe, said that in a recent case, the victim was waiting to catch a taxi to work in Meyerton when four males offered him a lift.
They were driving in a Brown Cruze, registration number unknown to him.
“He paid fifteen rands (R15) as he normally does and all of a sudden he was pointed with a firearm by a front passenger and the one sitting next to him also took out a firearm and pointed him on the stomach as he ordered him to look down, they searched him and took his two cellphones, belt, sneakers, driving license, bank card, wallet and watch all to the estimated value of R5040. They then left him next to the road with his hands and legs tied.”
In other cases the victims allege that they were picked up by different SUV vehicles with four occupants, all males, three are South Sotho and one is Zulu speaking.
“The Station Commander appeals to anyone who might have information that will lead to the arrest of these men to contact De Deur SAPS on 016 590 9200.”
