Man drowns while operating heavy machinery in Vaalpark

A man drowned on Thursday evening when his heavy machinery fell into a river at a construction site in Vaalpark.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, said: “ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 18h20 and were lead to the nearby river banks.”
“It was discovered that a man had been operating heavy machinery when it slid into the river. His colleagues attempted to rescue to man but were unsuccessful.
Once the man’s body was discovered and brought to the banks, medics assessed him and found no signs of life. Nothing could be done for him.”
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
