Low water pressure due to ‘emergency protocol implementation’

VEREENIGING. - The Emfuleni Local Municipality says consumers in Three Rivers and other parts of Emfuleni (ELM) are experiencing low pressure due to the emergency protocol implementation.

According to Stanley Gaba, Manager of Communications, Marketing and Branding, restrictions on ELM bulk meters were
imposed from Saturday (01 August 2020) as an emergency protocol measure.
“Collectively, Rand Water (RW) and ELM have to reduce consumption to the license target level (8% reduction is required).
“RW has exceeded its annual average portable (sic) water supply of 4 169 megalitre per day by 8% in the 2019/2020 financial year.
“This is due to high demand in the municipal sector which represents the largest component of RW’s total portable (sic) water supply volumes,” Gaba said. “In an effort to avoid a total failure on the bulk water supply system in the form of a shutdown, ELM and RW were compelled to implement measures to curb water demand in a bid to fulfill the license target,” Gaba explained.
He said that ELM residents and businesses are therefore advised to use water sparingly in order to avoid intermittent supply or total shutdown.
