By-elections results show confidence in us: ANC Gauteng
"Our democracy means nothing if the people are not at its center."
SEDIBENG.- The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng has said that the people of Gauteng have shown confidence in the party to continue partnering with them to advance social transformation and growing Gauteng together.
The party said that it remains grateful by the unwavering support the people have given to the ANC following the outcome of the By-elections held recently ( 11 November 2020).
Out of 14 Wards that were contested across the province, the ANC walked away with 12 by retaining 10 and winning two from opposition.

A statement issued by former Emfuleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor and ANC Gauteng Provincial Secretary, Jacob Khawe said, “What is most humbling in these By-elections is the fact that the ANC did not just retain its Wards, the people entrusted the party with Wards that were previously in the hands of the Democratic Alliance, which has since been elbowed out of those wards and failed to win a single Ward across the province.”
ANC Gauteng performed as follows:
• Johannesburg: Retained Ward 41 and 130 and won Ward 120 from the DA.
• Ekurhuleni: Retained all Wards; 60, 89 and 103.
• Sedibeng: Retained Ward 6 (Midvaal), 21 and 43 (both in Emfuleni) and won Ward 16 in Emfuleni from the DA.
• West Rand: Retained all Wards; 11 and 23.
Khawe further said, “The outcome of these By-elections is a clear indication that the strategic perspective adopted by the ANCGP at its 13th Provincial Conference to ensure that the movement continues being of service to the people and renews its interaction with the people resonates with society.”
