SEBOKENG.- The Zone 11 Stadium in Sebokeng has turned into a shadow of its former glory.

The Zone 11 Stadium was one of the desired local sporting venues that cost the municipality thousands of rands to upgrade but has now turned into a white elephant as the community uses it as a dumping site.
The venue has also become a hot spot for rapists. The surrounding community say they reported this alarming situation to the municipality and requested that the long grass gets cut as a matter of urgency, only for their pleas to fall on deaf ears.
The Zone 11 Stadium was a happy hunting ground for teams such as Sebokeng Real Sweepers FC and was a source of many fond memories from players and community members. Former Vaal Professionals deadly striker, Patrick Chacho is one of those that still hold the venue in high regard, with fond memories about the venue while he was still a in high school.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Chacho said that the venue was one of the best hard field grounds in the Vaal before being upgraded, including grass being laid.
“Look, whoever suggested to lay grass inside this venue destroyed the legacy of the Zone 11 Stadium. This venue was perfect without grass. They put grass but failed to maintain it. Look at the venue today, it is the opposite of what it used to be. I grew up playing here but its pitiful to look at it today,” said Chacho.
The members of the community plead with the municipality to cut the long grass inside the stadium as they say they are not safe, especially at night.
“Our attempt for the venue to be maintained has fallen on deaf ears. We have tried everything in our power to get the venue cleaned but with no success. You can see for yourself what kind of conditions our children are exposed to, especially young women. We have cases of women been raped inside this venue. We are appealing to the municipality to cut the grass,” said concerned community members. This is not the first time Sedibeng Ster Sport has reported about the condition of the venue, but still the situation remains the same.
