Local policing has given the community assurance that there are operations in place to address cable theft in Vanderbijlpark and Barrage areas.
According to police spokesperson Sgt Gertrude Makhale the Vanderbijlpark SAPS Station Commander, Barrage SAPS Station Commander together with the stakeholders from Emfuleni Municipality, AfriForum, Patrollers, GTCOC, ERPA, neighbourhood watches, different Security Companies and concerned residents around Vanderbijlpark and Barrage had a meeting concerning the cable theft issues that is affecting both communities of the above policing precinct.
Makhale said the meeting was a success. “An Operational Plan was put in place to stop this arrogant behaviour from the criminals stealing cables daylight and at night.”
A special Task team was established to deal with this problem.
“Different units from SAPS, ELM, Security companies will be up in arms to address the issue of cable theft head -on. This will be a 24-hour response team.”
The police urged the community to have faith on the established team to do their work so that they can put these perpetrators behind bars.
“Anyone with information to assist to help us arrest this syndicate that is operating under ground and using our communities to commit crime of ferrous metal to come forward and share information with the SAPS on the given numbers.”
