SEBOKENG. – The South African Police Service’s (SAPS) National Crime Intelligence together with the Gauteng Highway Patrol operationalised information that led to the arrest of the suspect. During the arrest, police recovered a rifle, three pistols with over 200 rounds of ammunition as well as two vehicles. The suspect is due to make an appearance in the Sebokeng Magistrates Court tomorrow, Thursday 27 May after he was charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of a vehicle that has been used in the commission of a crime. Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili says, “Crime Intelligence cascaded information on the whereabouts of the suspects that had just committed a cash-in-transit robbery in Evaton. It is reported that an unknown number of suspects robbed a security vehicle of an undisclosed amount of money after allegedly using explosives to gain entry into the armoured vehicle.” Muridili states that two security guards were shot and injured during the robbery. “The suspects fled the scene, leaving the vehicle they had used to ram the armoured vehicle off the road burning. Gauteng Highway Patrol, joined by Johannesburg Metro Police K9 Unit and Ekurhuleni Metro Police, proceeded to the house in Sebokeng where they effected the arrest and seizures.” One of the confiscated vehicles, a Ford Ranger was positively identified as one of the getaway vehicles used by the suspects to flee the scene of cash-in-transit robbery. |
