VANDERBIJLPARK. – Some of the community members have given up. For six days, the community have been told about the water restoration that is underway after a water pipe burst and had to be fixed. 10 June marked seven days that the residents in different areas in the Vaal have been without water. Water Demand Management confirmed on 6 June to have completed tests on the seal. School children and educators were sent home on Monday, 7 June. “No water, no education,” was the messages from all the affected schools. Five school days have been wasted. The Department of Water Affairs reported on 4 June that the main pipe that supply water to many areas in the Vaal was damaged. The Emfuleni Municipality’s Communication Department has issued a statement on 6 June that the valve has been opened to refill the water network. According to the statement, it would take about six hours to complete and reservoir refilling will start soon afterwards. Those in the low lying areas would obtain supply. Those in the higher lying areas in Vanderbijlpark, the CBD, CE- and CW-areas would have to wait much longer untill the network was finally recharged. The management said customers would receive water at different times, depending on their location. The Administrator for Service Delivery in Emfuleni, Silas Zimu said he would visit electrical and water sites to check on the progress made. “This forms part of service delivery rendered to the community,” said Communication Head, Thabiso Hlongwane. He said the Administrators continue to remain committed to service the community. “Our community remains a priority in the midst of progress,” he concluded. * When going to press, there was still a water problem.
