Number of Covid deaths continue to rise in Gauteng

"COVID-19 symptoms can progress rapidly. Seek medical care before your condition worsens."

GAUTENG.- The Gauteng Health Department has said that daily infection cases indicate that the province is approaching a peak in the third wave of COVID-19.

The department said that hospital admissions continue to increase and are placing a heavy strain on the healthcare system in both public and private sectors.

“We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming week and where a need arises, we will repurpose more hospital beds to create additional capacity for those requiring hospital care. As the number of infections and number of hospitalisations increase, so has the number of deaths. This means more of us are losing our loved ones, friends and colleagues. Let us continue to practice COVID-19 safety measures even when we are with family and friends.”

The department advised community members to wear a mask, keep a safe physical distance from each other and wash hands regularly with soap or use a hand sanitiser to protect themselves and those around them.

“COVID-19 symptoms can progress rapidly. Seek medical care before your condition worsens.”
