Police on high alert as businesses close in Vereeniging

According to Vereeniging police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda, there have been no reports of violent protests in the precinct.

VEREENIGING. – Businesses  in Vereeniging are alleged to be closing in fear of the sporadic violent protests spreading to different towns.

It is alleged that the protests are attributed to the #freeZuma campaign, a call for the release of former President Jacob Zuma from jail.

According to Vereeniging police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda, there have been no reports of violent protests in the precinct.

“Our members are on the ground and on high alert. There have not been reports of any violence or looting of shops in the area but police will continue to monitor the situation.”
