BOIPATONG. – The residents of Boipatong, together with the CPF and the SAPS were hard at work guarding businesses in the area day and night.
A community leader, Maniki Ntsepe, said the directive to protect businesses was taken from the Sedibeng Cluster.
“A meeting was called by the cluster to inform us that there was going to be violent protests and looting in our communities. As the community, we heeded the call and decided to work together with our law enforcement to make sure that businesses in our area remain safe.”
Ntsepe said about 30 looters who had mobilised to loot businesses in the area were dispersed recently after some of the patrollers saw them.
“What they are doing now is taking advantage of places where there is no electricity. They carry empty bags and weapons, and they are looking for just a slight opportunity to carry out their agenda.”
The Boipatong Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mapalo Khasuli was seen last week patrolling the area along with some of her members. Ntsepe said that this gave the community assurance that they will have back up should the need arise.
“We are working together as community members, business owners, our Ward Councillor and the police. No looting will happen in our names. If we fail to protect our business today, we will suffer tomorrow.
