SHARPEVILLE.- The two kids were rushed to Tshepiso clinic last week Wednesday after they showed signs of poisoning.
The kids are alleged to have gotten sick after consuming an instant powdered drink (cool-aid) that was bought from one of the local shops.
The kids apparently drank the powder as is and did not mix it with water.
Palesa Modise, Mpho’s mother said that she went shopping with her friend Palesa Ramokhoase and when they got back home, Mpho came inside the house and said that she was tired and wanted to sleep. Mpho asked for water.
“She started rolling her eyes and we saw that something was not right. We then sought transport from one of our friends and rushed her to Tshepiso Clinic. On our arrival Mpho was taken to the Emergency Room where nurses tried to help her. I was later called back inside and told that my daughter didn’t make it.”

While at the clinic, a call came in to inform Palesa Ramokhoase that her son Bokang was also experiencing similar symptoms to those of Mpho. “I immediately called our neighbour again and told him what was happening.
“He was not around our house but luckily my younger sister was able to get a taxi to bring Bokang to the clinic.” Palesa said that that Bokang died before they got off the taxi. “By the time they brought him inside the clinic he was already gone.” Both mothers said that they are deeply saddened by this occurrence.
“This is not the first time that kids have died in this area after consuming products bought from a local shop. We need the police to do something about this.”

Two other kids that were playing with Bokang and Mpho on the day were also hospitalised and later discharged.
They had mixed the powder with water. The two families are still awaiting results of a post-mortem.
Bokang and Mpho were buried on Tuesday.
Police Spokesperson Constable Busisiwe Sango confirms that the police have launched an inquest case docket, adding that investigations are ongoing.
