SEDIBENG.- The South African football team started their Tokyo Olympic 2020 campaign on lower note in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday. This was after SA suffered a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Japan in the opening game.
The SA camp has been hit by COVID-19 with some key players testing positive for COVID-19 ahead of the games. James Montage and Kamohelo Mahlatsi are two team members who were tested positive on Sunday. As the results of this the SA team missed two training sessions. Despite this challenges, SA put a brave fight and were unlucky not to get a gaol. Coach David Notoane’s side showed a never die attitude putting their opponents under presure. After the game, Notoane’s was confident that they will regroup. SA goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams made some brilliant saves to deny Japan clear scoring opportunities. Notoane said the virus has hit them hard and disorganised them as far as their game plan is concerned. He further said that they had to make adjustment after some key members of their team tested positive on Sunday.
