SEBOKENG. – South African Police Services (SAPS) member, Constable Molwantwa George Molefi, has been laid to rest.
Molefi, who was working in the Highway Patrol Unit, was part of a multi-disciplinary team of officers who confronted a group of suspects at a house in Dalpark, Brakpan, who were allegedly conspiring to commit a cash-in-transit robbery recently.
Molefi was shot and killed during a shootout that ensued between the police and suspects.
Molefi’s Funeral Service was held at Zone 3 Stadium in Sebokeng where Police Minister General Bheki Cele attended along with management and men and women in blue who came in numbers.
Cele says: “To us, Constable Molefi is not an employee, he is a member of the SAPS family. We honour and value this member and our attendance here today speaks volumes. “The charge we are making is that we want the person who pulled the trigger to be found.”
Cele urged members to take care of themselves because criminals are heartless and have no value for life. Brother Thabang Molefi says: “The death of my brother leaves a huge dent and is more devastating for his kids who now have to live without a father.”
Molefi said that his brother’s death follows their mother’s death in 2020 and the death of his brother’s wife in 2019. “I feel our brother was given a send-off of a hero and a national asset. We find comfort in that his passing was not in vain after 19 suspects were arrested.”
Thabang said his brother would be remembered by the community for his heroic nature.
