Warm clothes donated to Eureka School

The Rotary Anns of Vereeniging were able to procure winter clothing for the physically and severely intellectually disabled children of Eureka School with the proceeds from secondhand items sold at their Rotary Ann Charity Shop at the Roadri Centre in Three Rivers, Vereeniging.

The clothing was handed over for Mandela Day on 18 July. Myrtle Stringer, President of the Vereeniging Rotary Anns, reports:
“Seven months ago the Vereeniging Rotary Anns realised a long held dream to open a Charity Shop where all the proceeds go to help the community of Vereeniging.
The doors were opened in December and the response was amazing, both from customers and people donating clothing, linen, crockery, books, kitchenware and bric-a-brac.

We had a very generous and enthusiastic sponsor – Trevor and Zurika Nienaber from Verbolt. They fitted the shop out with shelves and hangars, had sign writing done on the window and agreed to sponsor our rent. The THANK YOU is for Verbolt and all the customers who have supported us, and for the many donations of goods we have received.

Our promise was, and is, to help the community we live in and with this in mind, we decided to buy winter clothing for pupils of Eureka School. This school has been in existence for over 50 years and caters for physically and severely intellectually disabled children with ages ranging from 6 to 18. Our gift to them was 120 pairs of shoes and socks, drimacs and jerseys from Whitecross, to keep them warm this winter. Previously we had also given them 50 blankets (donated by Verbolt) and supplied each child in the Hostel with toiletries.
The Charity Shop is open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:00 to 15:00. We would love to see you there.”
