Angry residents disrupt housing allocations in Sebokeng

A group of angry residents from Ward 2 informal settlements tried to disrupt the allocations of houses in Sebokeng Extension 28 today.

SEBOKENG. – The allocations were carried out by Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and CoGTA Lebogang Maile together with officials from the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).

The group alleged that they had been left out of the allocation lists, adding that they had been promised houses by government officials.

They further demanded to be part of the beneficiaries.

“We have been living in shacks for years now and now that there are houses available, they are being given to other people. Some of them are not even from here.”

However, hundreds of people continued to line up with their documents in order to be verified as beneficiaries.

Officials were adamant that only those that appeared on the list would receive houses.
