SEDIBENG.- Just like their men’s counterparts, Mamelodi Sundowns Queens moved to the top of Group B in the CAF Women’s Champions League. This was after South African Queens beat Nigerian’s side Rivers Angels courtesy of Zanele Nhlapo’s goal at Al Salam Stadium in Cairo on Tuesday.
Mamelodi Sundowns Queens seems to be following on the footsteps of their men’s counterpart to conquer African women football if their performance in the two games they have played so far is anything to go by. They have demonstrated their superior against Nigerian women football giants Rivers Angels to top Group B. Mamelodi Sundowns football teams are teams of the moment. For the past ten years they have been dominating domestic football with the men’s team and recently their women soccer team.
It will be a great achievement if Mamelodi Sundowns Queens are crowned the CAF Women’s Champions League champs, not only for the club but for South African women football. South African women soccer players recently moved to top leagues in European. This is a clear indication that the standard of women football is improving in this country unlike in the past.
