“We are swimming in a pool of sewer”

When neighbours flush their toilets everything returns to her house.

BOPHELONG.- “I was thinking that by this time, after casting my vote, things would have changed to better.”

A dejected Phumelele Gumbi said these words when Sedibeng Ster visited her recently, adding that she had tried all avenues about her problem that she has been having for the past 11 years, but has not received help. Gumbi and her family have been trouble by a blocked main sewer hole that lets sewer flood her five-roomed house in Valakazi Street, Bophelong.  The situation is worse when it rains.

When Sedibeng Ster visited her recently, all the rooms in her house were flooded. She said when the blockage happens faeces come inside her house through pipes. Also when neighbours flush their toilets everything returns to her house. All that the Sangoma, and mother of three asks for is help from the powers that be. Already her wardrobe and cupbords board have been damaged.

Apparently Metsi-a-Lekoa employees unblock the manhole sometime, but this only lasts for a short time.
