Vultures Athletic Club to host Fun Run/Walk
This event is part of reviving the spirit of those athletes and families who lost their families to come together and have fun.

SEBOKENG.- Vultures Athletics Club will host a 5km Fun Run/Walk scheduled to take place at Saul Tsoetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14, Sebokeng on 16 May.
This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by Vultures Athletic Club Director, Petrus Mohalajeng (68) who despite his age is still running under the veteran category. Mohalajeng said that the COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult for them to organise any major events. He further said that this Fun Run/Walk will be the first event they host to bring everyone together. Mohalajeng said that the pandemic has left many families heartbroken, with most of them mourning loved ones and others losing their jobs. He said this event is part of reviving the spirit of those athletes and families who lost their families to come together and have fun. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mohalajeng said Vulture Athletic Club initiated this event to bring everyone together after President Cyril Ramaphosa eased some COVID-19 regulations.

“During these past difficult days of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our family members passed away and some have lost their jobs. It was the most difficult time of our lives losing our loved ones through this pandemic. As athletes, we were deprived of the opportunity to do what we love, which is to run. It was very frustrating sitting at home doing nothing especially being a sports person and our bodies could not take it anymore. I’m excited because it seems as if sports is getting back to normal and this means we will be able to organise more events. I know most of the athletes feel the same and they can’t wait to participate every weekend in their respective areas. The only races that took place during this pandemic were those organised in towns but here in township it was very difficult. For example, even the venues that we used to host our events at were closed due to this pandemic,” said Mohalajeng.
Both the senior and junior athletes were urged by Mohalajeng to apply for their Road Running Licences. He said this license is for the whole year with senior Road Running Licenses costing R200 and juniors R130. The participation fee is R50 per person.
