Fake news: SAPS slam social media post on Evaton Police Station robbery

According to the SAPS, Evaton Police Station was not robbed on Thursday night as the Facebook post claims.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has learnt with concern of a fake news story claiming Evaton Police Station has been robbed.

A Facebook post which has had over 170 shares claims that Evaton police station commander Brigadier Doctor Sibuyi confirmed that “his police station was robbed last night.”

According to the SAPS, Evaton Police Station was not robbed on Thursday night as the Facebook post claims.

In a Twitter post on Friday police said: “The SAPS has noted with concern the spread of false news on social media alleging that Evaton Police Station has been robbed.

SAPS refutes this and ensures we are committed to ensuring a safer country for all.”
