
SEBOKENG. – According to sources close to the case, the trio was having a joyride in a white Mercedes Benz that was hijacked last month at The Barrage.
Police received a tip-off about the hijacked vehicle that was making rounds in Zone 3 and Evaton.
When the trio, a male driver and two females saw the cops, they tried to flee and ended up losing control, plunging into a stationery Quantum.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, police spokesperson Constable Thulisile Msibi said a shootout ensued when SAPS members chased the car.
“Our Sedibeng K9 unit received information about a white Mercedes Benz that was hijacked last month at The Barrage. Members spotted the vehicle on Togo Road in Evaton occupied by four suspects.
“When our members approached the car, one occupant jumped off, tried to flee the scene shooting randomly. The hijacked vehicle then took off in high speed in the northerly direction. The police gave a chase,” she added.
Msibi said police fired shots in attempt to stop the vehicle which led to the vehicle losing control.
“Police fired several shots to the vehicle in attempt to stop it. The chase continued around Sebokeng Zone 3 till Shell filing station in Zone 6 where the vehicle hit a stationery Toyota Quantum.
Two females and one male suspect were immediately arrested . During the shootout, the driver was shot on the right leg and taken to Sebokeng Hospital for medical attention.”
