Hlungwane appointed Chairperson for Gauteng  Referees Technical Unit

Former PSL experienced match official, Victor Hlungwane, was been appointed the Chairperson of SAFA Gauteng Referees  Technical/Development Unit recently.

SEDIBENG.-Hlungwane will be working alongside notable names in refereeing such as Sylvester Ndaba and Heads of development, Happy Hadebe, Brian Sibisi, Kelebogile Lefhidi and Vusi Mdluli.

He started his role as Chairperson with a fairness test to prepare referees for ABC Motsepe League, Gauteng Development League, Sasol Women’s League including regional leagues. Hlungwane told Sedibeng Ster Sport that all the referees in Gauteng who fall under the above mentioned league attended this fitness test that was held at the Germiston Stadium. Those who failed the test will be given another chance to retest after six weeks.

“I must say it was a successful fitness test and the level of competition was too high. Those who passed the test deserved it because they came here well prepared. The aim is to bring the best out of our referees when the season starts,” he said.

Abram Mashala from the national panel also ran the test to motivate these referees. Hlungwane revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that on the same day, there was a workshop for assessors. They were trained in how to assess match officials without being biased and submitting reports that will help in grading the referees in the province for promotion.
