Fire awareness reduces risks in Sedibeng

‘‘We are doing the fire awareness campaign with municipalities’ disaster management units to heighten the message in communities."

SEDIBENG.- According to Fire Awareness Training Officer in Gauteng, Jabulile Shabalala said the campaign is on track and significant progress with various stakeholders is being made.

‘‘We are doing the fire awareness campaign with municipalities’ disaster management units to heighten the message in communities. Another point is that municipalities are also responsible in fighting some of the fires in communities,’’ she explained further that  there is a positive response from the side of the stakeholders and communities in partaking in the awareness.

‘‘We will conduct the fire awareness until December because it is crucial to educate the communities about the dangers of fires and what safety measures to put in place to mitigate the problems,’’

According to Dr Moses Khangale a Stakeholder and Engagement Manager at SANTAM said Working on Fire is an appointed independent monitor and evaluator for fire risk reduction.

‘‘This is a six months contract to lapse end of December. We need to educate communities through fire awareness program,’’ he said.
