Tjhabatsohle set to represent Mzansi in Botswana robotics competition

They represented their school in their district during a school’s robotic competition and excelled.

DENEYSVILLE – Now a group of Grade six pupils from Tjhabatsohle Primary School in Deneysville, is set to jet off to Botswana to represent the country.

Bokang Mthembu, Thato Motloung, Lesego Mphasane and Nthabiseng Makhalema will be heading to the world of oil to share their expertise on robotics.

The quadro group won the coding and robotics competition which took place in Bloemfontein recently.

Two teams from the school participated in provincial level representing Fezile Dabi and only one won.

During the competition, learners were coding and programming robots that they have created.

They used their laptops and programming applications to code, so that the robots can respond the coding command.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Principal at the school, Archie Tumahole said he is very proud that the school is in position 3 and that the school is going to Botswana.

“I am very proud that the school from a small town in Deneysville competed with some of the private schools and yet we managed to beat them. This is a milestone and something to be honoured about,” he said.

Meanwhile, a training teacher at the school for Coding and robotics Mafono Mosia shared her sentiments on her victorious win.

“I am equally proud that the learners were able to implement everything she taught. Since coding and robotics is part of the 4th industrial revolution, I’m very proud that I gave these learners a skill that is in demand or is going to be in demand for the future,” she said.

A Grade six pupil Bokang Mthembu (13) said she is excited and proud.

“Even though the competition was tough but we were very prepared and very confident, thanks to Ma’am Mosia for giving us guidance during the preparation for the competition,” she said.

Learners were accompanied by Madini Hlapile, Motsoeneng Teboho and the Head of Department in robotics Malindi Buyisiwe for moral support.
