Catch me if you can!

For the past eight years, Mamelodi Sundowns has been writing the South African, and African football history.

SEDIBENG.- It is a situation of “catch me if you can” with Mamelodi Sundowns as they have opened a wide gap at the top of the DStv Premiership log standings with 17 points. This was after they beat “has been” but youthful Kaizer Chiefs side 1-0 in the DStv Premiership at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.

As predicted Mamelodi Sundowns once again proved to be unstoppable when they demonstrated their class against Amakhosi to stretch their lead at the top of the log. With the league coming to an end at the end of May which is three and a half months from now, many have already crowned Sundowns the league champions.

Before their much-anticipated encounter against Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend, many were of the opinion that Chiefs were still having a chance to finish at the top of the log standings at the end of the season if they win their remaining games.

However, their defeat against Sundowns over the weekend, saw their ambitions going up in smoke to hand Sundowns a trophy in advance. Sedibeng Ster Sport indicated in the previous article that since Rhulani Mokwena took over as the Head Coach of Sundowns, the club has enjoyed success under his leadership.

He seems to be in control of the dressing room with players seemingly happy to play for him and die with their boots on like real soldiers.

Sundowns’ domination in local football is something to be admired, with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirate seemingly having lost their status as the South African giant thanks to the club’s former President, Patrice Motsepe who turned the club into one of the most feared outfits in the continent.
