Breaking: SAMWU marches to ELM headquarters

Scores of workers are this morning marching to ELM headquarters to handover a memorandum.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Hundreds of members of the South African Municipal Worker’s Union (SAMWU) are gathered in Vanderbijlpark in preparation for a march to the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).

The union says the march follows several events which have resulted in the ELM failing to consistently pay workers in time and the general collapse of service delivery within the municipality.

“SAMWU along with municipal workers will be marching to the municipality to deliver a memorandum of demands.

“Some of the issues leading to workers taking to the street includes the continuous attachment of the municipality’s bank account by Eskom and other service providers, the outsourcing of municipal services, fraud and corruption, the collapse of service delivery and high vacancy rate,” SAMWU said.
