EVATON – The giving back event was held at Emthonjeni Community Centre under the leadership of Mme Maria Manoto recently.
Emthonjeni is a Non-Profit Organization established in 2001 and was registered with Social Department a year later.
The main focus of the organization is to care for children coming from different deprived households.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Programme Manager at Emthonjeni, Maria Manoto said their duty is taking care of struggling children in the community.
“Our daily duty is to look at the social problems kids are facing and make sure we assist them with everything they need. One of many projects our organization is spearheading is to give parents of these vulnerable kids food parcels so that families sleep with full stomach. Most important task we are bared with is to see to it that these kids are properly dressed when they go to school in order to boost their confidence, despite their home situations”.
“We approached Thusong Project, asking for school uniform donations because normally when the year starts these children struggle with school uniform. Fortunate enough, Thusong donated 200 school shoes, polish and brushes to us,” she said.
Manoto said the donation was warmly welcomed and appreciated by the organization.
“For a very long time, we have not been getting sponsors or donations and to such gesture really warm our hearts,” she said.
Daisy Makume, General Manager at Thusong said “I was contacted by Emthonjeni about kids struggling with school uniform. I organized 200 school shoes from some of our donor and as a way to teach them how to be responsible, I also requested shoe polish and brushes to keep their shoes in good condition”.
“When children look decent [with proper school uniform], they feel dignified, confident and become better people. I jumped in because I dislike seeing pupils especially as young as these kids without school uniform. The donation was a success and we would like to thank all our sponsors,” she said.
