Today, March 9, scores of pupils from Boitumelo Secondary School, where Gadu attended before his tragic incident, together with educators, parents, and residents held a prayer session.

Among the gathered crowd was the Gadu and Katu family who looked visibly distraught during the service.

Hymns accompanied by a djembe drum, candle lighting, and prayer moment were some of the activities carried out at the school’s assembly.

Different speakers gave messages of support to the family and shared bible verses of hope.

Addressing the crowd who braved the scorching sun, some with umbrellas, Kenneth Dladla, a teacher at the school said the prayer session is not a memorial, but a session to restore hope to the family.

“What we conducting now is not a memorial service for Samkelo, but a prayer session as a call to God to give light so the young man is found.

His family has suffered enough, our gathering here is to call upon the creator of heaven and earth to release the Gadu family from this stressful situation they are in,” he said.

Anthony Makunye, a resident in Boitumelo who gave a message of support to the family, educators, and pupils close to Gadu said the sad situation they facing will pass.

“We are badly touched as residents of Boitumelo. We also have kids, and if this had to happen to one of our kids, we would also be devastated. In these coming weeks, the light will be shed and the boy will be found. The one who promised us [God], is trustworthy. To the family, the problem you are facing will pass. The Lord we serve doesn’t sleep, nor slumber. This too shall pass,” he said.

Lebohang Nkosi, a grade 10 pupil at the school said “God is present in our lives. God sees, God is not blind and God is not deaf. All that matters now is to stay in faith and pray as much as we can. As we are gathered here, I know heaven is pleased that we doing something. Let’s pray until he is found”.
