Football fraternity shocked by homeless soccer star’s situation

Sedibeng Ster Sport tried to find the family of the player which proved fruitless.

SEDIBENG.- The story of Khayelihle Shozi shocked the football fraternity after one of the fans shared the shocking images of this once superstar on social media platforms.

The soccer fan spotted this former Mamelodi Sundowns star roaming around Vereeniging streets digging in rubbish bins recently. He took the picture with Shozi and shared it on social media and the football lovers reacted, with some calling the PSL clubs chairmen to help this homeless “soccer star”.

Despite roaming around the streets of Vereeniging, Sedibeng Ster Sport can confirm that Shozi is not from Vaal. Sedibeng Ster’s offices were busy since this homeless soccer star started trending on social media with some Good Samaritans offering to help him. It is reported that Shozi went missing twice in 2022 after he was found, his family had him admitted to a psychiatric hospital. It is said that he still suffers from mental illness and lives under bridges.

Sedibeng Ster Sport has received calls from prominent business people who want to help this once-promising superstar. Bonny Tsotetsi, who is one of the prominent businesswomen is among the people who were touched by Shozi’s situation.

Tsotetsi who is the wife of former Orlando Pirates defender, Phiri Tsotetsi, called this journalist to make inquiries about this homeless soccer star. Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane was among the prominent figures who were shocked by the situation of Shozi. He took his frustration to his Twitter handle saying:

“Khayelihle Shozi’s situation saddens me. His combination with Percy Tau was amazing.”

Mosimane wrote on his Twitter account after seeing the photo of Kanyelihle Shozi.
