
BOIPATONG.- It was action galore when Sedibeng Netball League kicked off at Boipatong Stadium over the weekend.
These games were also in commemoration of the late Sedibeng Netball Association President, Sonti Mqikela, and Monosi Konopi. These two were part of the players who were involved in a terrible accident that claimed their lives when the selected Sedibeng Netball Team went to participate in the SA Netball Championships held in Cape Town.
The opening of the league involved the following divisions, u15, u19, senior males and females, and mixed divisions. Despite the scorching sun, It was action throughout the day.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Sedibeng Netball Federation President, Fakazile Nketsing said the opening of the league matches formed part of remembering those two who served Sedibeng netball with distinction as players and administrators. Nketsing said they will always remember them for their contribution to netball in Sedibeng.

“It was a very emotional day because even their parents were here as we paid respect to their fallen beloved ones. They are gone but not forgotten for the role they played in the development of netball. It is important to note that they have paved the way for the next generation of netballers in Sedibeng and we will continue with their legacy.
“We went to their families to accept our invitation and be part of our opening games and it was not easy for them because sitting there watching these games I wished they could have watched their children,” said Nkitseng.

Meanwhile, Nkitseng said as part of social cohesion in the league they are pleased to have a foreign national team that will be playing in the league.
