ESKOM scraps ELM’s debt: Makola

SEDIBENG. – Much to the delight of the current, troubled, and bankrupt Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) leadership, national electricity supplier Eskom is said to have scrapped the municipalities debt.
ELM Finance MEC, Hassan Makola has gone live on social networks to announce the news.
In December last year, Eskom attached ELM assets after obtaining an R1.3bn judgment against it. The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria had granted an order allowing the state-owned power utility to attach the assets after the municipality failed to settle its accounts and arrears.

Speaking on one of the social networks this week Makola said that they are pleased to announce that the Eskom debt will be written off as of 31 March.
“ELM will be liable to pay its current account and this will assist in accelerating service delivery to our people. This is good news and we are grateful to those that participated in the effort that (led to) the debt be written off.”
At the time of going to print ESKOM had not issued an official statement on the matter.
#This is a developing story.
