VANDERBIJLPARK – Rocking international stages together after they met and collaborated to be a trio that stunned crowds, this is what glued the crew.
Sadly, the band consisting of two Disc Jockeys playing differently fused genres, Mandla Mthimkhulu (Scottish) and Paseka Ramokhoase (Sasco), and a percussionist Sphiwe Nhlapo (Spetla) have now called it a day.
This is after Scottish took a decision to focus on a solo career.
Sedibeng Ster interviewed the 30-year-old [Scottish] following their break-up, who told the paper that the split, has nothing to do with an ugly divorce.
“Our is a boring break-up tale, driven by self-growth and career redirection,” said the popular disc jockey.
Speaking to the Ster Team at his home in Vanderbijlpark, Scottish explained his intentions.
“I left the crew because we wanted different things. As you grow up certain things don’t excite you anymore like ‘grooving’, instead, one turns to focus on working and going back home. I feel like I needed to grow, hence I took the decision to leave the band.
“I wanted to venture into other opportunities besides music. I am working on a new career as a voice-over artist and a full model. I am also going back to finishing my qualifications. I am focusing on me as a person,” he said.
Scottish said he didn’t leave the band in bad faith and they remain blood.
“We’re still cool with the boys, it’s just a change of scenario for me. We still hang out, in fact, we were together recently having a young groove night,” he said.
While many of their fans remain broken, Scottish said many are happy over the decision he took.
“I know many of our fans are very heartbroken, but many are happy about the split. It’s a matter of them supporting and understanding what growth means. I think I am at a better place now and will work hard and make sure that I change my life for the better, not that music isn’t a better gig, but growing up elsewhere is,” he said.
Reminiscing and sharing some of the most unforgettable moments with the trio, Scottish said he will definitely miss gracing stages.
“We’ve been through many good, bad, and ugly situations with the boys and I am surely going to miss them. My decision wasn’t an easy one to make but well thought out. I won’t lie and say I won’t miss the stage,” he said.
The newly formed duo has since released a statement on their social media pages.
“We are aware of the questions about what you’ve been seeing these past few months. We decided to mutually part ways. Scottish has established that he wants to further his solo career as much as it wasn’t an easy decision it is one we had to respect and support and as the Banger Family we wish him all the best,” read the statement.
