Over 80 suspects arrested in tracing operations by Sedibeng detectives
Nkhwashu said: “We are here to stamp the authority of the state. We are checking compliance on the road and we want motorists to know that operations will not only be carried out on special holidays but throughout the year to ensure that the law is upheld.”
SEDIBENG. – The Sedibeng District SAPS carried out operation Okae Molao under the leadership of Acting Commissioner Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu on Thursday, 20 April. The operation was preceded by a tracing operation by Sedibeng detectives where over 80 suspects were arrested for various crimes.
This was revealed by Nkhwashu at a multidisciplinary roadblock carried out on Thursday morning on Boy Louw Road. Nkhwashu said suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, assault, and robbery including crimes related to Gender-based violence and femicide. The operation was carried out together with the Department of Home Affairs, Department of Correctional Services, Traffic Police, and community patrollers.
Simultaneous operations were conducted in Boipatong and Sharpeville respectively. In Boipatong an illegal liquor outlet was closed and an undisclosed amount of liquor seized.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Mkhale says: “A total of 28 undocumented persons were arrested and an additional five nabbed in Sharpeville for possession of drugs.”
Makhale said all the arrested persons would appear at various Magistrate’s Courts.
