More IDP disruptions unfold in Metsimaholo

"The municipality will be procuring services of a water tank truck that will be placed in the area as soon as possible as a temporary measure," said Mayors spokeswoman.

SASOLBURG – The Metsimaholo Local Municipality Mayor Jeff Zwane seems to be inundated with growing Integrated Development Plan (IDP) meeting disruption headaches.

In a recent IDP meeting in Zamdela, fellow councillors of the ANC and EFF interrupted the meeting demanding the mayor to present the presentation rather than the CFO.

As if that was not enough, another IDP meeting was interrupted by residents on Monday, April 24, who refused to be engaged in a venue without water.

According to the Mayoral spokesperson Khangelwa Kolosa, the municipality is aware of water shortages in the area.

“Ward four and twenty specifically Mbeki, Phomolong, and Litamong settlements have been experiencing exacerbated water shortages caused by recurring electricity load shedding. The Metsimaholo Local Municipality is aware of this crisis and is working towards a lasting solution,” she said.

Kolosa said the Member of the Mayor Committee for Technical Department Thabang Rankoe, as well as the Municipal Engineer, explained to the attendees what challenges the department has been experiencing.

“They gave feedback on how the problem will be solved. The Municipality is currently conducting assessments and a report will be released in two weeks. Remedial initiatives will be finalized and in place. The municipality will be procuring services of a water tank truck that will be placed in the area as soon as possible as a temporary measure. We will be engaging with the current company that is refurbishing the water treatment plant to possibly extend their scope of work in order to address the crisis,” she said.

The spokeswoman further said the municipality will be knocking on all doors and approaching the Provincial Government, Treasury as well Private Sector entities for a permanent solution.

Meanwhile, Mayor Zwane is calling on residents of Metsimaholo to come in numbers and participate to contribute constructively towards the development of their Municipality. They need to be involved in their community matters. Further updates will be provided in due course.
